If you went to Sunday School, the name “Daniel” elicits the automatic word association of “in the Lion’s Den.”
Daniel’s entire life story is rich and full of brilliant life lessons. But somehow big, angry cats and kingly promises of ripped flesh and broken bones command our attention.
Because Daniel was faithful, obedient and strong, God delivered him from a mess of deceit, lies and most certain death by sending an angel to shut the lions’ mouths and leave him unharmed. Daniel was blameless before God and before the king — and his deliverance was representative of our authority and power in God’s coming Kingdom.
We all face lions of injustice, temptation, and pure, unadulterated evil in this world. Taming these lions requires discipline, obedience, and self-control — and we need God to strengthen us throughout the journey.
Our original Daniel Plan journey — 40 days of purposeful prayer and fasting throughout Lent 2014 — was more than a diet, more than an exercise regime, more than a lifestyle change. It was a training ground on taming lions.
Today, the Taming Lions journey is evolving into a ministry that exists to give hope to people with spiritual lions to tame.
“My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.” – Daniel 6:22
