A funny thing happened to us last night when we went to make dinner. We stared into the fridge, and nothing — NOTHING looked good.
We had random tidbits of Daniel Plan Detox friendly foods… but nothing to pull together a good meal. When we stocked our kitchen with basics during our infamous Daniel Plan grocery store trip, I spent so much that I guess I thought it should have lasted longer!
We ended up eating a “hodgepodge” dinner, as my daughter, Bella likes to call it — turkey brats (they are really gross, by the way – stick with the chicken kind), cooked sauerkraut, and some weird mix of peas, mushrooms, olive oil and garlic.
Mike and Bella, who are NOT doing the Detox part of the journey with me, were thrilled at the prospect of greek yogurt, walnuts, and raw honey for dessert. I grabbed a handful of organic dried cherries and drank another decaf herbal tea (Tazo Vanilla Roobios is great for a sweet tooth stumper!). It was fine… just unsatisfying.
Plan Ahead to Be Prepared
A key concept of my training on Taming Lions is that to eat healthy, you HAVE to be prepared — and in my case, shop more often. When you buy groceries Daniel style, virtually everything has a short shelf life. Natural foods just don’t last as long without all the icky preservatives.
So I made this Healthy Meal Planner & Shopping List to help us plan out meals ahead of time before grocery night each week. This should help us avoid food emergencies at dinnertime. Hang it on the fridge — no fuss.
My next lion to tame… finding the time to actually plan! Stay tuned.
Have any tips on how you plan ahead to avoid food emergencies (or find the time to plan!)? I’d love to hear them in the comments below!
