How ’bout eggs?
Well, what does that have to do with Jesus?
Alright, we’ll hide ’em.

Easter is almost here. It’s screaming at me from the grocery store aisles with renewed fervor compared to last year. I can’t imagine the entire Mount Vernon, Ohio population could devour the Easter candy contents of our local Kroger store without a city-wide Type 2 diabetes outbreak.
To clarify, I don’t plan to be a militant momma when it comes to my kid and candy. But the idea of a traditional, sugar-laden mess of a basket this year makes my stomach turn. I won’t force an unbending Daniel Plan lifestyle on my little girl — but this Easter, I want her basket to be filled with life-giving treats.
I found this video on one of Mollie’s favorite blogs, 100 Days of Real Food. Lisa Leake shares Easter Basket ideas that are entirely candy free!
The reality is, we’ll probably end up with a few Cadbury Creme or Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs in the house anyway — which Bella can savor and enjoy as a special treat. (And since my initial 40 day journey will technically be finished, I may have a tiny taste, too!)
But I plan to create an “Essentials Easter Basket” for Bella: one that incorporates ideas around Faith, Food, Fitness, Friends, and Focus. Bella may not appreciate the intentions behind it yet — few four-year-olds would. But seeing this video inspired me to try something new, fun, and holistically healthy this year.
Have any cool healthy treats or gift ideas for Bella’s basket? I’d love to hear them in the comments below!
