This may have resonated better on the 17th of March, amidst green beer, corned beef and cabbage…
But for whatever reason, these words were given to me today.
The Prayer of St. Patrick
“Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.”
When faced with cake. When pushed to the limit. When all else fails. Surround me, Father. Carry me through.
In joy, in pain, in toil, in rest; in life, in death; O Lord — abide with me.
“I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness;
Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.”
